The thin atmosphere here is not enough to breath, but it is just thick enough for clouds to form on parts of the planet. These clouds are highly opaque, and on the night side the atmosphere is even temperate enough to survive. With the planet's slow rotation speed, the same spot on the planet can stay in the dark and obscured by clouds for months, while radiating enough heat to mask thermal signatures from the surface—all this making the planet ideal for hiding.
